May 2026 report

Post-spawn and shad

The shad spawn made the first hour of daylight worth getting up for, and the rest of the day stayed steady.

The pattern
Early made the difference. Shad spawning on the seawalls and dock posts gave us a fast forty five minutes at daylight, and then we settled into the regular work.
Crappie
Pulling back out to ten and fifteen feet of brush. Scattered for a couple of weeks after the spawn before they grouped up again toward the end of the month.
Bass
Docks, seawalls and whatever shade we could find under them. A steady month rather than a spectacular one, but nobody had a slow day.
