August 2026 report

August on the water

A hot month that fished early. Most of the good work happened before eight in the morning.

Water temp
Upper 80s
Lake level
Near full pool
Clarity
Light stain
Best window
Dawn to 8am
The pattern
Running by five thirty most mornings and off the water before the pleasure boats got going. By mid-morning it was slow enough that the extra hours were not worth much.
Crappie
Tight to deeper brush in fifteen to twenty feet, and in the shade under docks. Nothing complicated, but you had to be on the right brush at the right time, and that moved as the month warmed.
Bass
Better than expected on the bluff ends early, including a handful in the four-pound class. They shut off hard once the sun got on the water.
