February 2026 report

The first stir

Still winter, but the water gained a few degrees and the fish started thinking about moving.

The pattern
The same late morning window as January for most of the month. The last week it stretched out on both ends, and fish began sliding off the deep timber toward the creek channels.
Crappie
Twenty to twenty five feet and starting to stage. Still on brush, but the brush nearer the spawning pockets rather than the deepest stuff out front.
Bass
A jerkbait month. Rocky secondary points and long pauses between twitches. Two of the heaviest fish of the winter came in February.
